Our Story

Built in Barbados.
Built for the World.

Pelicor Group was established to create a single, unified executive platform from which a family of specialist, internationally-operating insurance companies could grow, governed by shared values and led by a team whose sole focus is excellence.

Pelicor is a centralized parent and management company, but is not a licensed insurance company. Instead, we exist as the strategic and executive parent of licensed, regulated insurance entities that operate in their own right across global markets.

Every major decision, from product design, capital allocation, brand governance, and risk philosophy, flows through Pelicor. Our subsidiaries benefit from the depth of leadership, the calibre of management, and the reputation that a strong group parent provides.

The choice of Barbados as our group domicile was deliberate. Barbados is OECD-compliant, EU white listed, and fully FATF-approved, meeting the highest international standards for financial transparency. English Common Law underpins every contract. It is a jurisdiction chosen by the world's leading insurance groups, not in spite of its rigour, but because of it.

With over 40 years of established captive insurance legislation, Barbados ranks among the world's top 10 insurance domiciles, with 273 active captives and US$73.5 billion in assets under management. The jurisdiction's tiered tax structure (0%, 2%, 2%) reflects a business-friendly regulatory environment. Deep local professional talent in accounting, law, and actuarial disciplines ensures seamless operations. The Financial Services Commission's collaborative approach positions Barbados as a serious, proven, and genuinely business-friendly jurisdiction for global insurance.

Brown pelican — the spirit of Barbados

The Name

"The pelican has graced the Barbados Coat of Arms for generations. Cor is the Latin word for heart. Pelicor is, quite literally, the heart of an international insurance story, incorporated in Barbados, operating worldwide."

The pelican is one of nature's most extraordinary parents, known to provide for its young from its own sustenance, a symbol of sacrifice, resilience, and care. It is no coincidence that the pelican features on the Barbados Coat of Arms, representing the enduring spirit of a culture built on those same values.

'Cor' is associated with the Latin word for heart and core, because a group management company should be exactly that: the heart from which everything else flows: the executive centre that gives each subsidiary its direction, its standards, and its strength.

Pelicor. The heart of an international insurance group.

What We Stand For

Our Values

Integrity

We hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards. We aim to communicate clearly, act responsibly, and make decisions that support the long-term strength of the Group.

Excellence

The Pelicor name is a promise. Every company that carries our badge is held to a standard of quality that is non-negotiable.

Global Vision

We build for, and operate in, international markets while remaining attentive to the personal touch that sets us apart.

People First

Insurance is ultimately about the promises we make to protect people. That truth shapes how we think about strategy, products, and stewardship across the Group.

What We Do

The Role of the Group

More than a holding company

Pelicor Group is not a passive parent entity. It serves as the executive management company for the Group, providing the leadership, standards, and strategic framework that each of our licensed subsidiaries draws upon every day. We do not conduct insurance business; our licensed and regulated subsidiaries do.

01

Strategic Leadership

The Pelicor executive team sets group-wide strategy, defines the direction for each subsidiary, and ensures all companies are aligned behind a common purpose and long-term vision, across every international market the group operates in.

02

Executive Oversight

All group executives sit within Pelicor. This means our subsidiaries access world-class management talent, including CEO, CFO, CRO and General Counsel, without each licensed entity bearing that overhead independently.

03

Brand Governance

The Pelicor name is the group's most valuable asset. We set and enforce brand standards across all subsidiaries, ensuring that the phrase "a Pelicor Group company" carries consistent meaning and prestige across its businesses.

04

Risk & Capital Management

Pelicor provides group-level oversight into areas such as risk appetite, capital planning, and reinsurance strategy. Pelicor ensures the Group as a whole remains financially robust, compliant with applicable regulations in each jurisdiction, and positioned for sustainable growth.
